too bad so sad SB S&D (rant warning)

This is a very very sad day for me. After using trusting, using and promoting SpyBot Search & Destroy for many years, considering it to be the finest product with no other alternatives to use in it's place, I have now changed my opinion.

It is sad when the software no longer removes the threats and infections like it used to, even worse when they sponsor a forum with "experts" to help remove what spybot no longer can, and the "experts" quit the task part way, which somehow renders the infected computer with even more problems than when I first contacted the forum and began the process.

What had been simply an annoying problem with browser window opening on some web page when search was done, fake error messages, and fake multiple browser window openings (even somewhat amusing but not destructive) has become nearly an unusable computer now with more problems due to the incomplete assistance from the "expert".

Simply put, my computer is now worse off for having visited the spybot forum and following the "expert" advise.

So sadly, I will no longer use spybot, certainly no longer trust spybot (and certainly not their "experts") and will do anything but promote the use of spybot. You didn't loose just one software user here, you lost one has been loyal for years (I'm guessing at least 5 years, seems like many more than that) and anyone I ever speak to about computers will know to stay away from spybot.

... it is as if the evil empire has taken over spybot. Did microsoft buy spybot??? Sure seems so.

raddad,

I believe you are confused and angry due to your situation, which unlike many appears to be a simple mistake made when purchasing a PC from an unknown source. Though many come here looking for help and are fully aware they are pirating Windows, it appears from your comments that you were unfortunately duped by whomever sold you the unlicensed PC.

Though the policy here is quite clear and I agree with it completely, the links provided here only explain the policy, not the path you must take to solve the piracy issue. I believe this is because the Piracy screen you got when attempting to install the service pack should have provided you with the proper options to acquire a legal operating system.

In case that didn't occur or it was simply confusing, here's the appropriate path to understand your situation and the options you have.
