Thanks for all your help in cleaning up this virus! It was a lot of work, and your help and speedy replies were really great!
You are welcome. It has been long road but dealing with these infections nowadays has come harder.

I tried to uninstall combofix, but when I ran the command I got a message that the file was not found. I think I did delete it during an earlier phase. Do I need to something else with this?
Thats switch didnt work if the Combofix.exex wasnt on your desktop. That uninstall process does some important things so we need to do them manually:

Clear Infected System Restore Points

  • Turn System Restore off
  • On the Desktop, right click on the My Computer icon.
  • Click Properties.
  • Click the System Restore tab.
  • Check Turn off System Restore.
  • Click Apply, and then click OK.
    Restart your computer
  • Turn System Restore on
  • On the Desktop, right click on the My Computer icon.
  • Click Properties.
  • Click the System Restore tab.
  • Uncheck *Turn off System Restore*.
  • Click Apply, and then click OK.
Note: only do this once, and not on a regular basis

Set correct settings for files

  • Click Start > My Computer > Tools menu (at top of page) > Folder Options > View tab.
  • Under Hidden files and folders if necessary select Do not show hidden files and folders.
  • If unchecked please check Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
  • If necessary check Display content of system folders
  • If necessary Uncheck Hide file extensions for known file types.
  • Click OK

I am going to start using Firefox instead of IE.
Thats a good decision. It will take some time to get use to. I havent used my IE for over 5 years. The one thing i really like about it is the add-ons and that i can customize my browser to suite me.

In terms of multiple Anti-virus softwars: as you may have seen from my logs and posts, I have upgraded to McAfee Total Protection which will provide automatic updates. I also installed Malware Bytes. Should I remove that program because it will intefere with McAfee - or would it be a good idea to run a Malware Bytes scan every so often? Does the same go for Spyware Blaster and Ad-aware?
Malwarebytes Antimalware, Ad-aware and Spywareblaster wont interfere with Mcafee. Spywareblaster isnt running in realtime it provides a blocklist for malicious sites.

I would keep Malwarebytes Antimalware and run scan roughly every week. Unless you have bought the licence for Malwarebytes then it wont run relatime either. Ad-aware however runs in realtime which can provide you some added protection.

When you have read this can you let me know so we can archive this topic.

Thanks

Thanks for all your help and support. I will follow the steps you suggested. Glad to have a virus-free computer!!
