Trojan infection - Spybot & HJT won't run

Hi again,
I'm sorry, but by now, I'm totally and utterly paranoid and I'm not willing to take any risk with my own PC, however small that may appear to be. If there is no other way of getting the exeHelper on to my son's laptop then I'm afraid we've come to a dead-end with that one.
As for the Dr.Webb CureIt, its the same story as before, it runs the express scan OK but then disappears when trying to run the complete scan.

Well Fatdad, I guess we are at the end of the line. Please be advised that I have been at this for many years and this is not the only forum that I work logs, I am in contact with dozens of other helpers on different forums, most of us are like family, really good friends, we exchange a wealth of info about the current infections back and fourth to help one another. Its been confirmed by a number of people with the same problem your having now with AVG flagging exehelper as bad, but its not. I can only advise, I cannot force you to do anything, so at this point the thing I can suggest is to format and reinstall windows. Sorry it didn't work out, we both put a lot of time and effort into this, thank you for sticking by me with what you have put into this on your end also.

If you need help reinstalling windows, you can post in one of these forums for help.

Good Luck,

Ken, Thanks for all the help you've given me in trying to resolve this. I hope you can understand my position, my PC is vital to me at the moment and I can't afford to take any risks (even if they are only in my own head ). I haven't backed it up for a good few months now - but that's something I'll be getting on with very soon!
I do appreciate the service you and your colleagues are providing here and especially all the time and effort you have put in trying to help me with this one. You're all doing a great job, keep up the good work! :bigthumb:
Once again, many thanks!
Cheers,
Anthony (a.k.a. Fatdad1961) :thanks:

Anthony, if it saved it it would be on your desktop. It would be DrWeb.csv, you would have to rename it to DrWeb.txt

Ken, there's no DrWeb.csv file anywhere on the system, but I have found a text file called 'cureit.txt'. This seems to be a log of all the attempted 'Express scans' (appended onto the end of one another), not the full scan. Would this be of any use?

Hi Ken,
I tried posting the file but it was too big, so I tried splitting it off from the point the last scan was started, but even this was more than twice the permitted posting size. Do you still want me to try split it further and post it?

Got it Anthony. I was looking for a certain infection and it did not find it so I guess it off to reformat :red:

Ken :)

Keep in mind if you install some of these programs. Only ONE Anti Virus and only ONE Firewall is recommended, more is overkill and can cause you problems. You can install all the Spyware programs I have listed without any problems. If you install Spyware Blaster and Spyware Guard, they will conflict with the TeaTimer in Spybot , you can still install Spybot Search and Destroy but do not enable the TeaTimer .

Here are some free programs to install, all free and highly regarded by the fine people in the Malware Removal Community
  • Spybot Search and Destroy 1.6
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis. If you install Spyware Blaster ( Recommended ) then do not enable the TeaTimer in Spybot Search and Destroy.
  • Spyware Blaster It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed. No scan to run, just update about once a week and enable all protection.
  • Spyware Guard It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts, again, no scan to run, just install it and let it do its thing.
  • IE-Spyad
IE-Spyad places over 6000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • Firefox 3 It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.

Safe Surfn
Ken
