Dont panic
Reboot a few times and see if your desktop is back to normal
If not > windows control panel user accounts > make a new account, then
log into that account and see if there are any problems there

whew...things came back when i logged back into windows...

All seems well EXCEPT......when I try to enable Windows Firewall I get the message:

"due to an unidentified problem....windows cannot display firewall settings>"


Ive tried rebooting several times....just wont turn on.

Once that is fixed i suggest turning off the windows built in firewall and installing a third party program, interested ?

Fixed. And yes...Im interested if you think it offers more/better protection.

There are several free programs mentioned here

Dont install more that one firewall or antivirus program.
