Unable to Login after Spybot Cleanup

Ok - so I ran Spybot 1.6 yesterday on a Windows XP Media Center edition PC. Cleaned out a bunch of spyware, then mentioned something was still in use and needed to be rebooted so the scan could run before Windows loads next time. I rebooted the PC, but now everytime I try to click on the user account to log in - it logs in, then immediately logs me off (on all user accounts, this happens in Safe Mode as well). any thoughts on how to fix this? It's a very big problem obviously, and I can't access the desktop or run any commands before it logs me out. :sad:

At one stage a problem very much like this was happening with version 1.3 and under some conditions also version 1.4. At that stage the following methods to correct the situation were put forward.
