Uninstall Problem

I tried to uninstall the old version of Spybot before installing the new version. Both Add/Remove programs and the uninstall feature of Spybot, give me the following message:

C:\ProgramFiles\Spybot-Search & Destroy\unins000.dat does not exist. Cannot uninstall.

What should I do?

Thanks for the responses. Sorry I didn't mention it in my original post, but, I am a computer novice. I need detailed instructions on what to do. I have version 1.5.1.15 installed. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

hmm true that would be fine.....

but just to be on the safe side, i like to wipe everything before a upgrade. Its the users choice really. =]
 
Removing it from Add/Remove programs doesn't work. Can I still use the small fix mentioned? Or, can I install the new version without removing the old one? By the way, thanks for the welcome!:)
 
Did the uninstall work alright? If it did... then uninstall the previous version and upgrade.

First undo the Immunization and disable SDHELPER and TEATIMER.

Download the registry fix directly to the desktop and click on MERGE.

yup, just follow the directions on the link i gave you :) Run the tool.
 
I ran the tool and got the following message:

Are you sure you want to add the information in C:\Documents and Settings\Abby\My Documents\remove-spybotsd-settings.reg to the registry? I clicked yes. I then tried to uninstall the old version of Spybot, but, still was unable to do it. What did I do wrong? Thanks for your help.

drragostea, I hope this isn’t a stupid question, but, are you saying that I should reinstall the old version? Thanks for the help.

Reinstalling the same version of software that you are attempting to remove will often recreate the unins000.dat and/or unins000.exe files required to use Add/Remove Programs.

The purpose remove-spybotsd-settings.reg file is not to fix the problem you encountered using Add/Remove Programs. The remove-spybotsd-settings.reg file is intended to be used as a cleanup tool to ensure any outstanding registry entries are deleted after you have successfully used Add/Remove Programs or manually uninstalled.
 
I reinstalled the old version and was then able to uninstall it. Thanks so much for your help. But, I have one more question. When I tried to install the new version, I got this message:

The folder: C:\ProgramFiles\Spybot-Search & Destroy already exists. Would you like to install to that folder anyway?

I didn’t know what to do, so I found the folder with Windows Explorer and deleted it. Then, I installed the new version. I hope that’s right. If not, please let me know. Thanks to all for the help. I really appreciate it.

That's about it. Download all the latest updates, this includes F/P fixes. Then Immunize.

Spybot-Search&Destroy 1.6 is scheduled to be released on July 4, 2008.
