The last couple of weeks, in the area where all my updates are shown, all it says is "detection rules" as opposed to a list of trojans, etc. I just recently installed Firefox as my default browser, outside of the immunize feature, am I still getting full protection? Thanks.

As you can see the nature and/or packaging of the updates vary from week to week.
It should also be noted that the following single download/update from 2007-08-22 actually contained updates to approximately 15 different files:
Conclusion –Most likely nothing amiss.
If you really want to check, go into Spybot > Update > Show Log and verify that list against the above (they are in a different format but you should be able to determine if you are receiving all the updates).
