Hi _Rip_Chain_,

I ran ComboFix, the log is below.

A question about the Kaspersky Online scan. I started it and let it go for 14 hours, but it had only done 13 files. I restarted thinking it may have locked up. It's now at 8.5 hours and at 13 files again:

Now scanning: ABP480N5.SY_/abp480n5.sys
Location: C:\cmdcons

Is this normal? How long should I let it go for? Thanks!

Hi _Rip_Chain_,

I let Kaspersky run for over 30 hours, but it remained on only 13 files:

Now scanning: ABP480N5.SY_/abp480n5.sys
Location: C:\cmdcons

I let it go, but when I checked on it today, the computer had restarted.

Suggestions?

Hello 1abrams,

Some those online anti-virus scanners lock up on certain files for various reasons, in this case I don't believe it's anything to worry about. I don't really see anything else that is cause for concern here.

Let's run MBAM one more time, if it doesn't pick up anything of major interest, and you no longer notice any malware problems we can finish up.

  • Open MalwareBytes Anti-Malware
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

Hi _Rip_Chain_,

I ran the MBAB Quick Scan and the results follow:

That scan didn't find a whole lot, how is your computer currently working for you? Do you notice any other malware related problems?

Hi _Rip_Chain_,

The light may be at the end of the tunnel?!?! Thanks again for all your help.

I haven't been using my PC since the infection started, except for diagnosis purposes, but the browser hijacking has stopped occurring. I ran Spybot and it found some tracking cookies.

I then ran my Symantec virus scan, which found three new instance of Trojan.Vundo. It added them to the 17 existing instances of Trojan.Vundo, Bloodhound, and Trojan.Metajuan that it had already quarantined (making 20 total quarantined files).

Another new thing is the Microsoft Security Center Alerts icon is in the system tray. It lists ZoneAlarm Firewall as ON, Automatic Updates as OFF, and Virus Protection as CHECK STATUS (even though Symantec is enabled and updated).

While I have a registered version of Symantec Corporate Edition installed, would I get more protection from a different product, one that also may block malware and spyware as well?

Thanks!

Hi 1abrams

How is you computer behaving now?

Please post a fresh HijackThis log next.

"Another new thing is the Microsoft Security Center Alerts icon is in the system tray. It lists ZoneAlarm Firewall as ON, Automatic Updates as OFF, and Virus Protection as CHECK STATUS (even though Symantec is enabled and updated)."

Yes that is normal because mbam changed registry value for that to default.

"While I have a registered version of Symantec Corporate Edition installed, would I get more protection from a different product, one that also may block malware and spyware as well?"

I can suggest some free programs in a bit :)

Hi Shaba!

I've been avoiding using my PC until I was sure it was clean, so I haven't seen anything beyond what's in my previous post. I did run a Symantec scan again, and it quarantined Combofix.exe for having the Trojan Horse virus.

Thanks!

My HJT follows:

Empty these folders:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Recovery
C:\Qoobox\Quarantine

Empty Recycle Bin.

Still problems?

Hi Shaba,

Purged the Spybot recovery files from Spybot.
Deleted the Qoobox files.
Emptied my Recycle Bin.

I've not seen any strange behavior is a while.

If nothing looks fishy on the latest HJT, then I guess it's good to go...?

Thanks!

Although I just ran MBAM, and it found an infected file. Just want to make sure my computer is clean....Is this a false positive too (log follows):

Thanks for info.

I'd like you to check a file for malware.
C:\WINDOWS\Radeon Omega Drivers v3.8.205 Uninstall.exe
  • Copy/Paste the first file on the list into the white Upload a file box.
  • Click Send/Submit, and the file will upload to VirusTotal/Jotti, where it will be scanned by several anti-virus programmes.
  • After a while, a window will open, with details of what the scans found.
  • Save the complete results in a Notepad/Word document on your desktop.
  • Post back results here, please.

Hi Shaba,

VirusTotal was congested, so I used Jotti's. The results follow:

`````````````````
File: Radeon_Omega_Drivers_v3.8.205_Uninstall.exe
