Virus creating cookies on network connection, and causing (new tab) popups in Firefox

There appears to be still some AVG related entries there.
Let's try a couple of things and if those fail then reinstall AVG and disable all its protection components while trying Windows Update. Do you recall when the Windows Update has previously worked? Has it worked after AVG installation?
Download & run Windows Script here.
1. Download TDSSKiller and extract its contents into a folder in desired location (i.e. c:\tdsskiller).
2. Execute the file TDSSKiller.exe.
3. Click Start Scan. If threats are found, select cure and click Continue (tool may prompt for a reboot).
4. Post back contents of log file in c: drive root (name should be in UtilityName.Version_Date_Time_log.txt format)

The script said that "Setup has detected that the Service Pack version of this system is newer than the update you are applying." and "There is no need to install this update."
The last time I did a windows update, was probably a few months ago, like 6-ish months ago, maybe more... But well after installing AVG.

That was all. You may delete TDSSKiller folder and related log now.
