Virus.Win32.Virut.l and other Malware: diffculty cleaning computer

My computer has been infected with what seems like a lot of malware. After many attempts to clean most of them, there are still some pesky ones lingering around.

My Kaspersky online scan report is too long to post. It's over 114938 characters long. What should I do?

My computer is completely crippled now. I can only log into safemode to do anything. Will running hi-jack this in safemode be sufficient to get a report?

I am considering doing a zero-byte format and reinstalling windows. Kaspersky is reporting numerous system files being infected and not being able to disinfect.

I have two drives. One for windows and programs, the other for my personal data. Would I have to format the drive with personal data as well?
 
Hello and welcome to the forums :)

Yes please post a HijackThis log to here. (safe mode log will have to do if you can't get one in normal mode)
  • Download HJTInstall.exe to your Desktop.
  • Doubleclick HJTInstall.exe to install it.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
  • Click on Install.
  • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
  • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Copy/Paste the log to your next reply please.
Don't use the Analyse This button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

You could attatch the whole kaspersky log to here as an attachment in your reply.

It is quite hard to answer the format question before I see some logs...

Okay, even bigger problems. One of the drives I have won't even boot. I do hear it spinning up though, trying to read or access.

Even trying to use seagates boot disk or Acronis TrueImage Boot disc won't work.

Looks like I have a whole diffrent problem.

This thread can be closed if you security experts deem the situation to be not related to this forum anymore.

OK that sounds like a physical problem.

I would like to see HijackThis log and Kaspersky log just in case there is something to clean :bigthumb:
 
Ok, I think i attached the report properly. The file was too large so I zipped up the .txt report for Kaspersky.

I never got the chance to make a HJT log though before the drive error, but hopefully the Kaspersky report is useful.

But I got that drive working again and I have a HJT log of my current computer state

Ok bad news. You seem to have a file infector virus there (virus that infects other files on your computer). These can be very nasty.

Let's see how this cleans:

Please run the F-Secure Online Scanner

Note: This Scanner is for Internet Explorer Only!
  • Follow the Instruction Here for installation.
  • Accept the License Agreement.
  • Once the ActiveX installs,Click Full System Scan
  • Once the download completes,the scan will begin automatically.
  • The scan will take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan completes, click the Automatic cleaning (recommended) button.
  • Click the Show Report button and Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply. (alternatively you can upload this too)

I've decided to just do a LLF on all my drives and reinstall windows.

As soon as I backup any data off the drives I will do a scan of the files to ensure none of them are infected.

Ok that is a wise decision. Please be careful when backupping so that you don't backup infected files. Text, music and pictures should be safe to backup. Don't copy any exe or dll or other program files as they may be infected.

Then there are a couple of things you should do immediately after installing Windows and before surfing the net...
  • Install an antivirus and firewall (you should download and have those on a CD or USB drive, all ready to be installed).

    These are good (free) firewalls:
    - Kerio
    - Sygate
    - Outpost

    These are good (free) antiviruses:
    - Antivir
    - Avast
    - AVG
  • Get all Windows updates installed!

I feel a lot better knowing that most of my steps I did to prevent and protect my computer after a clean install was suggested by you as well.
