Vundo, Smitfraud-C., and Virtumonde

Correction to the error code I just posted. The error code I received when I tried to update windows was 0x80072EE2. However, when I went back there just now to check the error code number, it DID let me download and install an update.

HELP! Still have Smitfraud-C.

I updated Spybot and did a scan, and was disappointed to find it picked up 2 instances of Smitfraud-C.--the same one I had to begin with, plus another. I told Spybot to fix the problems, but I'm not sure that it did. What now?

Spybot findings are most likely leftovers.

Please post back spybot report next.

How did you know that? You were EXACTLY correct--the Spybot scan came up completely clean this time! The only thing that's a little strange is that when I boot up, at the very beginning, a black screen comes up with too much writing to read in the fraction of a second that it's visible. The first line starts off with "Please" and it looks like there are two options below it, but then it immediately goes into the Windows startup screen. I remember that ComboFix got the Windows recovery console installed so it could boot up into the special mode--is it still trying to do that, or is this something else that I need to do something about? Thanks again.

Yes that is due to recovery console.

I can recommend how to uninstall it but I highly recommend to leave as you can in most cases solve (booting etc.) problems via recovery console.

Then I will leave it, just as you suggested. One last question: We had disabled Spybot's Tea Timer--do I need to turn it back on again? (And if so, how?) THANKS!

This will do it :)

1. Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
2. If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
3. On the left hand side, Click on Tools
4. Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
5. Check "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
6. Restart your computer.

Thank you SO much for all you did--and especially for your patience in dealing with the problems AND my questions! May your new year be filled with the best of all blessings, and may all your problems be small ones! Take care.
