W 32 bagle,maybe removed but still no safe boot, all virusscanners 'locked' etc.

Hi and thanks for reading this. It's alomst a week now since I got this rootkit mallware hack. I've done lot's of research (with my mediocre pc knowledge).
and have had some help removing some files but i stll have the above mentioned problems. i vcant boot intoo save mode, o can t run any vorisscanners and i cant run online virusscanners since i cant install the activeX software needed.
I do not trust my pc at all at the moment, and i got a (real or fake) email from paypal that my account had lots of false login attempts lately...

Hi, welcome to Safer Networking forums!

The following tool could rebuild the safeboot key that bagle deleted therefore allowing you to boot to safe mode again..

*Download avz4en.zip here
Unzip it to a folder on your desktop
Double click on AVZ.exe
Click on the file tab and then click on System recovery
Put a checkmark next to Restore SafeBoot registry keys
Click on Execute selected operations then Exit AVZ.

*Download Gmer
  • Disconnect from internet and close running programs.
  • There is a small chance this application may crash your computer so save any work you have open.
  • Double click gmer.exe
  • Let the gmer.sys driver load if asked.
  • If it gives you a warning at program start about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...say Ok.
  • If no warning....
  • Click "Rootkit" tab and click "Scan"
  • Once done, click "Copy"
  • Open Notepad and hit "ctrl+v" to paste the log.
  • Reconnect to the internet and post the log back to this thread please.
*Download ComboScan to your Desktop.

1. Close all applications and windows.
2. Double-click on comboscan.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
3. When the scan is complete, a text file will open - ComboScan.txt
4. Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of ComboScan.txt in your next reply.
5. A folder, C:\ComboScan, will also open. In it will be another text file, Supplementary.txt.
6. Please copy and paste the contents of Supplementary.txt to your post.


Note: some firewalls may warn that sigcheck.exe is trying to access the internet - please ensure that you allow sigcheck.exe permission to do so.

On your next reply, please include the GMER log, contents of comboscan.txt and supplementary.txt

*Hi, I recommend that you uninstall Avast already since it seems that you are not using it anymore and it is outdated..

*Please download AVG Anti-Spyware to your Desktop or to your usual Download Folder.

  • Install AVG Anti-Spyware by double clicking the installer.
  • Follow the prompts. Make sure that Launch AVG Anti-Spyware is checked.
  • On the main screen under Your Computer's security.
    • Click on Change state next to Resident shield. It should now change to inactive.
    • Click on Change state next to Automatic updates. It should now change to inactive.
    • Next to Last Update, click on Update now. (You will need an active internet connection to perform this)
    • Wait until you see the Update succesfull message.
  • Right-click the AVG Anti-Spyware Tray Icon and uncheck Start with Windows.
  • Right-click the AVG Anti-Spyware Tray Icon and select Exit. Confirm by clicking Yes.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update AVG Antispyware.

Download the Full database to your Desktop or to your usual Download Folder and install it by double clicking the file. Make sure that AVG Anti-Spyware is closed before installing the update. Do not use it yet!

Reboot into Safe Mode.

To enter Safe Mode..

Click Start > Turn Off Computer > Restart > Tap F8 key just before Windows starts to load, > This will bring up a Menu > Use your keyboard to scroll to Safe Mode> Hit enter.

*Configure your machine to view hidden files:

  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer..
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View Tab.
  • Under the "Hidden files and folders" heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide Protected Operating System Files Option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.

*Using Windows Explorer, find and delete these files:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\hldrrr.exe
C:\WINDOWS\d3dx.dat


Do you recognize the following file? If not, locate the file and right click on it, select properties, and look for the vendor name, or anything that would indicate the program with which it may be associated. If you still do not recognize it, nor does it appear to be associated with a known valid program, delete it...

Double click it.

  • Double click the CCleaner shortcut on the desktop to start the program.
  • On the "Windows" tab, under "Internet Explorer," uncheck "Cookies" if you do not want them deleted. (If deleted, you will likely need to reenter your passwords at all sites where a cookie is used to recognize you when you visit).
  • If you use either the Firefox or Mozilla browsers, the box to uncheck for "Cookies" is on the Applications tab, under Firefox/Mozilla.
  • Click on the "Options" icon at the left side of the window, then click on "Advanced."
    deselect "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours."
  • Click on the "Cleaner" icon on the left side of the window, then click Run Cleaner to run the program.

*Please run AVG AntiSpyware, and run a full scan as follow:

IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while AVG AntiSpyware is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning process.
  • Launch AVG AntiSpyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
  • Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
  • AVG AntiSpyware will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
    Once the scan is complete do the following:
  • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"
  • Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
  • Select the "Save Report As" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system. (Make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
  • Close AVG AntiSpyware.
  • Reboot to normal mode.

*Run Panda Active Scan
  • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan Your PC button.
  • A new window will open...click the Check Now button.
  • Enter your Country.
  • Enter your State/Province.
  • Enter your E-mail Address and click Send.
  • Select either Home User or Company.
  • Click the big Scan Now button.
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it.
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan. (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  • When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan.
  • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.
On your next reply, please post a fresh HijackThis log, AVG antispyware log, Panda scan log and a description on how your machine is running..
