Thanks Ken I appreciate it. I understand. I work for myself from home, so I'm only going to get myself in trouble! I had already downloaded installed and run MA Anti-malware. Did the scan selected everything and deleted, but when I re-scanned the exact same number and names of infections were there. PC runs for about 5 mins before it freezes and I have to pull the plug. Logs posted below for "clean" pc:

Ken

On my "clean" computer I am able to access the internet for about 5-10 minutes before the page says "not responding" and I am unable to shut down or end program, I literally have to pull the plug. Same when I do the anti-malware scan, at the end it wont respond. I was trying to access bleeping computer to download the Flash disinfector but I was unable to get to the download or your links which worked for you. I was able to do this with the same link from a third (neighbors) pc. I read in one forum that this is something that Antivirus 2009 does. Also on the "infected" pc currently undergoing the Kaspersky scan, I am still getting constant warnings like "Warning Critical Media Error in your media system. Your video codec has been corrupted. Sysytem cant play audio video filesuntil issue is resolved. Update your media codec immediately." or "Warning Media codec has been destroyed. Risk of losing all your audio files high. To resolve this issue update your media codec immediately", again something apparently Antivirus 2009 does, could it be that this is in my pc's?

Thanks

Mark

Is this related to your company??

The rest of the log looks fine

Not sure about the proxy override, but I dont recognise the company in Germany. I also tried to do an anti-malware scan and after 4 minutes it comes up negative then doesn't respond. The scan was normally taking 10 minutes or so.

What would a proxy override or proxy settings usually be used for?

Is it possible to call you to explain what I use the pc for and if they may relate to that?

Just Googled Schlund NCC, couldnt get to the google links on my pc but it looks like some illegal gambling or something.

Sorry, but for security reasons amongst others we just do work through the forums.

Remove these with HJT, we can reset it if it causes issues

Then make sure your internet works. If your still having issues than you need to contact your IT department, I really feel awkward changing any setting that may be related to your company.

I fully understand Ken, I didnt want to put too much more info out in a public forum that was all, unfortunately there is no IT dept just me!....deleted suggested items and posted HJT log here:

I will post Kaspersky scan results on family pc when scan completes. I'll let you know if deleting those last items fixed my "work" pc

Thanks

Mark

ps miserable day in Darien

was hoping for a last game of paddle at Weed Beach, but it wasn't to be. IE still not responding after 5-10 minutes, and I think MA anti-malware giving false negatives as it stops abruptly with a pop up message "The scan completed successfully. No malicious items were detected, click main menu" when you hit ok to close that window and hit main menu the system stops responding. An I cant shut the pc down without pulling the poer cord. Is it worth running Kaspersky on that pc too?...scan still running on family pc and has detected 1 item thus far 69% done.

Thanks

Mark

Why dont your run this other one on your work computer, its a bit faster, but I wanted Kaspersky in the family PC to see if it is infected with a file infector. If it only found one entry at 69% you may be ok, lets wait and see.

You can boot to Safemode with Networking and run it , this will load only basic programs needed for your computer to run.

  • Go to Start> Shut off your Computer> Restart
  • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly,
this will bring up a menu.
  • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to Safemode with Networking
  • Then press the Enter Key on your Keyboard
Tutorial if you need it How to boot into Safemode

Please run this free online virus scanner from ESET
  • Note: You will need to use Internet explorer for this scan
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  • Click Start
  • When asked, allow the activex control to install
  • Click Start
  • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is ticked, and the option Scan unwanted applications is checked
  • Click Scan
  • Wait for the scan to finish
  • Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
  • Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic

I'll give it a try now Ken thanks. I posted the Kaspersky log above....how does it look?...still getting those error messages on the family pc and the screen settings change after about 10 mins...tried to get to display settings to adjust, but the usual tabs were no longer there.

On the work pc, whatever is on there is preventing me from accessing sites that offer spyware removal...the page is either unavailable or it just hangs...I've read on forums of people experiencing the same..not sure how they dealt with it

geez now Thunder...running the ESET scanner in safemode, but it is stalling after I press the Start button. The screen reads ESET Online Scanner. Initialization of the ESET Online Scanner. Error:Update failed (200). The next status bar is not moving.

I waited 5 minutes and nothing...tried again...same thing...should I just be patient?

Home PC, open up Internet Explorer and go to Tools> Internet Options and on the Advanced Tab, click on Reset Internet Explorer Settings> Reset..... let it do its thing , close IE and reopen it and then see if you can access any malware removal sites.

The only thing Kaspersky found was a file back up from Combofix, no file infector virus. Drag Combofix to the trash and grab an updated copy and run it again.

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

You can try this one
Trendmicro Housecall

just hung with error message....see other issues with same on web....is there a work around this or another comparible scanner?

"work" pc is the one having trouble with spyware removal sites and IE and anti-malware not responding...will go to home pc and do as instructed....ESET hung with error message on "work" pc

Run Combofix on your work PC

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
  • See this Link for programs that need to be disabled and instruction on how to disable them.
  • Remember to re-enable them when we're done.

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

RcAuto1.gif

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:
whatnext.jpg

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a New Hijackthis log.

*If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.

Mark,

I work many forums and have many posters that I am working with, working this one with two computers is getting very confusing so this is what we need to do.

1. Let me know how the original computer we where working on is running?

2. As far as your clean PC, if your having problems with it shutting down then start a new topic for that computer

Ken

I appreciate the help. Right now my "work" computer is far more important than the family one, I just figured that since it was running fine and I havent used it for anything this weekend other than corresponding with you and downloading and uploading from the infected computer that the two were connected...and I'm pretty sure that is the case.

Family pc will run fine for 10 mins or so then display changes on screen. There are numerous warnings relating to video codec that will appear in a red cross in the toolbar. Internet access ids fine and unrestricted.

"work" pc will run fine for 5-10 mins then access to spyware prevention sites are restricted.

I'll run combofix on "work" pc and report back, I'll happily wait a week to get "family" pc fixed, I understand you are jammed, but I'm in trouble without the "work" one. I hope that is okay with you.

I'd offer you a glass or two of wine if you'd drop by!!
