Windows 7 event log error

Broken Hope

New member
Whenever I use Spybot I get the following error in my event log

Activation context generation failed for "c:\program files (x86)\spybot - search & destroy\DelZip179.dll".Error in manifest or policy file "c:\program files (x86)\spybot - search & destroy\DelZip179.dll" on line 8. The value "*" of attribute "language" in element "assemblyIdentity" is invalid.

Is it possible to fix this?

Hello,

Please try to delete the files seperately after a scan.
This error message appears if too many bad files are found and should be deleted in one run.

If this does not help please delete the recovery function in Spybot - Search & Destroy.

Select "Settings" --> "Settings" from the toolbar on the left.
In the section "Main settings" please untick the checkbox in front of all three items "Create backups......".
That should solve the problem.

Or run a scan in safe mode:

That should fix it.

Best regards
Sandra

That doesn't make much sense to me, the error is saying that the attribute for "language" in the dll is invalid, surely that means something in the dll has been set wrong and needs fixing? Why would deleting too many files cause that error?

Especially since it's barely deleting anything when I'm clearing up usage tracks. Plus the only backup option I have checked is for fixed internal
problems which is a feature I don't even use.

The following page also states that language should be set to something e.g en-US, where's it appears to be set as "*" for some reason?

Any more updates in regards to this? It even happens if you open the program but don't actually use it to do anything so I'm not quite sure how the response that the error is because I'm deleting too much at once is valid.

The error usually appears in the event log a few hours later, not right away.
