I did see online that spiders dislike vinegar. So you could go around with spray bottles filled with vinegar to try to shoot them if they come around. It could be a shoot out at high noon type situation, like in the wild west. Of course, the spider will totally be wearing a tiny cowboy hat and gunslinger belt, with tiny spray bottles of vinegar themselves, to make it fair.

I think some people use vinegar for carpet stain removal, so it probably wouldn't hurt carpeting too bad. I prefer spot shot myself.
That totally sounds like something I would try. I read something online about covering a stain on a carpet with solution, then a towel and then ironing it out, but I never tried it because I figured I'd just end up with a scorched towel.
