Version 1.6.2. can't find updates

It could, until a day or two ago. Now, it says that no new updates are available.

Is that true, or is the installation corrupted?

I also have the latest version installed, but I don't like it.

There also seems to be a problem with immunization.

In the three columns Unprotected, Protected and Total, repeated several times are the numbers 36, 193,706 and 15492 against the various Profile entries.

Below all those is a heading Windows, alongside which are the numbers 15492, 0 and 15492 in the Unprotected, Protected and Total columns respectively.

What am I to make of that?

You should see some repetition of the counts as Spybot immunises different aspects of your system. I can't reproduce your numbers exactly, but here is part of what I see. The column order is Unprotected, Protected, Total and my identifying information has been redacted:
