How to permanently block "problems"

First let me say that I've surfed this site for an answer to my question and haven't really found one, so here goes, I find it amazing what Spybot finds that no other program seems to but how can I permanently block what it finds?

I mean, after I go through the process of checking for problems and then fixing the problems they are right back the next scan. How do I block these?
 
Maybe there is a solution. But, without knowing the repetitive problems that are getting it is impossible to tell.

Please post a log of the actual detections you are getting. To do that:
  • Run another scan.
  • When the scan completes, right click on the results list, select "Copy results to clipboard".
  • Then paste (Ctrl+V) those results to a new post in this thread.

Which problems do you mean exactly?
What are they named?
Tracking cookies?

Which version of Spybot do you run?
Do you have installed the latest updates?
Which brwoser do you use?

Of course you need more info.

My computer is XP service pack II
I use Firefox almost exclusively.
My version of Spybot is 1.4
I last updated 2-2006

They are all tracking cookies.

Is there a way to copy the cookie address and then paste it into a block list of my virus program? I use Trend Micro PC-cillin.

I copied the log and pasted it but wholly molly was it a lot of info. Unless it's absolutely necessary I thought it best to not paste it. All the entries are tracking cookies and I figured that would probably be pretty easy to remedy.

You can block third party (tracking) cookies from being stored on your system from within your browser. See the following article (see Note #1 below concerning Firefox):
Note #2: It appears that some third-party cookies may not be blocked in Firefox by setting the options in the referenced article. Please see the comments by Zenobia in last post of the following thread:

Please go into Spybot > Help > About. If the display of information does not indicate the "Latest detection update: 2006-10-06" as follows, than please update:
  • Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4
  • Latest detection update: 2006-10-06
To update:
  • Go into Spybot > Update
  • Click "Search for Updates"
  • Check everything found
  • Click "Download Updates"
 
still needing help

Alright,

I didn't have the most recent downloads so I remedied that. Now when I scan I get even more spyware hits than before, thanks I'm sure to the new files recognizing all the new garbage on my computer.

I still face the same problem, how does one block these spyware programs from ever getting on your computer in the first place? Goog gosh I have a firewall, Trend Micro Internet Security 2006, Adware, Cyberhawk and still I get 18 hits of spyware when I run Spybot, to include Adviva, HitBox, WebTrendsLive, VX2.Favoriteman, etc., etc.

How to keep these off my computer in the first place?

I know that next time I scan with Spybot after surfing for a while I'll just get the same hits all over again.

Man this is rediculous, isn't there laws against scumbags depositing this crap on your computer?

Adviva, HitBox and WebTrendsLive are cookies. Review the following again:

Egad it looks like my son was on here while I was out, I cleaned this up, or thought I did a couple of hours ago.

I guess I'm in over my head.

I followed the instructions from note 2, actually when I started this thread a month ago and thought I had accomplished some level of blocking many of these cookies but apparently not so. Also Zenobia indicates "Or,you could go in Exceptions,type in advertising.com,then hit Block. Repeat for any other cookies you want blocked". Is that from the settings tab? I couldn't really find the exceptions tab.

I'm a bit confused about the threat posed by some of these cookies.The tutorial explains that results in red are spyware and should be considered dangerous for lack of a better word, but what you seem to indicate is that they are just tracking cookies, apparently no big deal. Is that so?

Man if these are no biggie then that would be great because this has already caused me just about enough frustration.

I don't know how you helpful people can #1 know this so well, and #2 tolerate some of our (mine) ignorances, but thanks for the help.

Did you follow the instructions for Firefox here?
Firefox: Open "Options" from the "Tools" menu. Click the "Privacy" icon, and open the "Cookies" category. Under "Allow sites to set cookies", just set the "for the originating web site only" option.

With proper setting you should be able to eliminate the repeditive storing if the Firefox tracking cookies.

Third party (tracking) cookies are not by far most insidious form of spyware out there and you shouldn't necessarily be paranoid about them. However, since third party (tracking) cookies record information in a single location for visits to multiple Web sites they are capable of tracking your surfing habits from site to site. In addition if you provide personally identifiable to sites that use certain third party cookies, you may inadvertently be sharing that information among the customers of the company (advertizers) storing those third party cookies.
