Kaspersky

The Kaspersky file seems to contain about a thousand pages! Did I do this right?

Didn't want to waste your time by posting if this is not correct.

Looking forward to your further advice.

Hi

Those look ok.

As for kaspersky report, you can remove all lines with "object is locked skipped". Size should remove significantly :)

Hi

Kaspersky online scan can't unfortunately clean/fix anything, it just lists what it has found :)

Thanks for the advice.

The only objects that appear not to be classed as "object is locked, skipped" appear in the first few lines. Please see below for details:

I look forward to your comments.

I ran a few searches this evening, & nothing got diverted to porn sites, etc. However, the response time seemed a bit slow, & when I checked on Task Manager there were 67 processes running (I was the only user logged on) - is this normal, or does this suggest a continuing problem?

Also, I ran a quick registry check using AVG, the results are below if this helps:

---------------------------------------------------------
AVG Anti-Spyware - Scan Report

HKLM\SOFTWARE\ShudderLTD\PSGuard\PSGuard -> Adware.PSGuard : Error during cleaning.
HKLM\SOFTWARE\ShudderLTD\PSGuard\PSGuard\License -> Adware.PSGuard : Cleaned with backup (quarantined).

::Report end

Thanks for your input. Looking forward to your comments / suggestions.

Hi

We reduce amount of running processes a bit later.

First we'll need to backup registry:

Start -> Run -> regedit -> ok. Then File -> Export. Give it a name and press Save.

Go in regedit to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ShudderLTD
Highlight it and go to Edit -> Permissions. Give full control there
Now try to delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ShudderLTD manually

Run a registry scan with avg a-s and let me know if those registry keys are still there?

Wow - this is significantly more complicated than I had realised. Your continuing assistance is much appreciated.

I followed your instructions from my normal logon but, unfortunately, it did not work. I received the following message:

"Error deleting key

Cannot delete ShudderLTD: Error while deleting key"

BTW the structure of the files were as follows:

-ShudderLTD
- PSGuard
- PSGuard
- Licence

I'm tempted to just throw the machine out of the window. Only the thought of the pedestrians below is stopping me. Their safety depends on whether you have any further suggestions :D: .

Hi

Actually that is just a registry key with no related files, so nothing really bad. So deletion isn't 100 % "must".

Did you do also this?

Highlight it and go to Edit -> Permissions. Give full control there

I mean by full control that you checkmark accept box in Full Control for your username (log in as administrator, highlight admin username, then checkmark accept box in Full Control and try again deletion of those).

Thanks for the clarification.

I can confirm that that is exactly what I did. I also tried tonight in Safe Mode. Same result.

I had a look at the Advanced settings for ShudderLTD. There were two tick boxes with the following descriptions:

1. Inherit from parent the permissions that apply to child objects. Include these with entries explicitly defined here.

2. Replace permission entries on all child objects with entries shown here that apply to child objects.

Neither of these options were ticked.

At this point I cancelled out without making any changes in order to report back to you.

Although it rather offends me that I cannot change / delete something on my own PC, if you feel that this is not a priority & it is time to move on then let us proceed.

I welcome your thoughts.

Hi

You can tick 2. and try again.

Registry entries are bad and we can remove them other way if you like. However, there's no related files so they're quite harmless. So, it's your decision :)

Thanks for the suggestion.

Unfortunately, I was still unable to delete the files.

Let's move on, if you are happy to do so.

No re-direct problems.

My PC seems to run slower than I would have hoped, but that may not be malware related.

Also, Spybot is still detecting Smitfraud-C, which is a bit disconcerting. Is this a similar issue to the PSGuard with no related files?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi

We reduce amount of running processes a bit later; that should make your computer faster.

Please then post here spybot report :)

I ran a scan with spybot. Currently all of the report options are ticked, except "do not report disabled or known legitimate items".

This produces quite a long report.

Would you like the complete version as above, or would you prefer me to un-tick some of the report options?

Thanks.
