AntiSpyware 2009 cant open S&D or Hijackthis pls help

Blade, I will be working on all listed.
Questions: I run adware for scans and AOL has theirs too. Is it ok to install another AV like AVAST also? What should I do with samantec?I'm not even sure what it is.
Could you please tell me what I should have as checked,prompt,enabled etc in advanced security? and should I update blacklist with what was found?I'm thinking there is more I can do there to protect my machine also.I'm afraid what info someone may have already gained from my computer,I didnt see a date on when the infections etc happened?. Should I change all my passwords for all sites etc of importance after this?
As for downloads and keeping up to date. I should be able to do this now with out problems ex: service pack 3.?
Also need to get S&D last time had 3 icons on desktop as I down loaded with out updates. However I couldnt ever get it to open /work.
Sorry I know there are a lot of questions here, but I do need help with these things.I want to be as protected as possible. Thanks again ,your an :angel: I'll be back after I've finished what you listed.
 
crap I uninstalled the combiFxx.exe no problems .BUT I still had
c:\documents and settings\HP_Owner\Desktop\CombiFixx.exe..exe typed it hit run like the prior but this time it did run and gave me a new log and created a new restore point.?? didnt uninstall

I'm not sure what that symantec thing is but looks like there isn't active antivirus program there. That said, you should be able to install Avast.

Are you refering to Spybot settings here? If yes then better ask Spybot subforum :)

Changing online passwords could be recommended even if those weren't compromised.

I recommend that you take some backups of your important pictures, videos and music before that.

ok got it to uninstall but did creating a new restore point in log mess anything up?

OK I got as far as "make your IE more secure" but I think I have problems from here and in security tab section ex:allow active content to run in my computer.etc. I made a list of what is checked so you can help me get these right but I don't think it's safe to post? RE:Too much information. can I PM it to you?
Also AOL just blocked Bitfrost..backdoor for 2nd time.
hKey_current_user_\software.wget this was all it would show me.Should I keep deleting what it finds like the above or just leave it all in blocked?

No pop ups.Put in Avast last night. Now I have a problem as I can't open Yahoo mail to get their key to register. My computer is rejecting yahoo's cookies.There is a link about configuring a web shield proxy.Not sure what that is even.There is a link for it in Avast not sure if I should do this?

didnt update to service pack 3 because of prior problems, found this about my computer and why it has to have a patch?

Since both are non malware issues I recommend you ask at http://forums.techguy.org for example :) If you decide to try your luck with sp3 I recommend backuping all pictures, videos, music etc important things before trying.

Still have ATF Cleaner , reset tea time.bat, and hijackthis icons all on desk top. Should I just delete them? and the logs.The windows XP boot disk on my desktop is my restore point I guess? So keep that?.

both created on the same dayin 2004. These are ok right?

The changes you had me make in internet otions, is this blocking cookies now as it is on high not med any longer? If so how do I accept cookies from the places I want? Do cookies give viruses too?

ATF Cleaner is good for cleaning temporary items occasionally. You may delete resetteatimer.bat but uninstall HijackThis thru add/remove programs.

You may delete logs too. Windows XP boot disk is recovery console installation file and can be deleted too.

What are these connected to? Taken from some log? System restore things will be flushed by system restore reset to which I gave instructions earlier.

One thing you should see in internet explorer settings. Go to tools and internet options.
Click once on the Security tab
Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
Change slider to mid level. Click ok and restart internet explorer.

See if site you had problems open ok. If it does then see the list in my 'all clean speech' and change ONLY settings I've listed there nothing else.

Do cookies give viruses too?

Some cookies are bad. I'm using mvps hosts file myself and don't have to worry about cookies too much :)
 
Well thanks to you my computer is now clean and safer.I'm still hanging online etc but I think it's machine related not maleware etc.After I get help from the techguy link and everthing is great, my children will be back on this computer. Soo not looking forward to this & resulting problems. I don't know how you can help us all here if you already deal with computers all day for a living. Thanks a 100 times over for your help and kindness.Remember :grandpa:,KARMA I'm sure all the good you do will come back to you, & that's the way it should be.:bighug:
