I have seen the other threads about this and I clicked "abort" If next time it appears and I click retry will it turn the file back to read only after?
As I hear it should stay read only for security.

Thanks yours G

Yep I have read them but they do not seem to give answers to these questions.
Is it legitimate?
Why is the prompt there and does it revert the file back to "read only" after it.
And as it seemed to update ok the box does not re appear so am I protected?

Also when I check in the help tab and click about the version I have is 1.6.2.46.

How far behind is that?

Your version of Spybot is up to date.
When I checked properties for advcheck.dll, mine was checkmarked as read only under attributes after the update,so I assume it reverts the file back to read only afterwards.

Looks like it's legit, and advcheck.dll updates ok from this post:

The advcheck.dll has been updated after the reboot because you selected "retry". Hence you do not see any new updates the last time you checked.

hth. :)

Oops,missed my edit post time.
Just noticed you said you clicked Abort the first time and the update doesn't reappear.

My version of advcheck.dll is 1.6.4.18.If yours updated ok,I'd guess that would be your version.
It's located at C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy if you want to check.It's hidden,though,so:

If you do check your version, and don't normally have hidden files and folders showing, you'd want to reverse the changes afterwards.

Where abouts is the advcheck.dll to be found after you look in C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy ?

I found it and enclose a screenshot of the propertys which is different from the version that spybot shows on the info tab on the console.

Hello,

Just hit retry and make a fresh system start, then everything should be fine. The advcheck is probably a hidden file. :)

Thanks for your reply, I found the file and posted the picture I took of its properties in the last post and as I hit abort and it still updated the option to retry is not appearing, It just says you are already updated.
Will the option re appear when SB release the next update next week?.
If not then what can I do?

But I did not update that error if I did not hit reply and instead hit abort, and the versions in the screen shot are not the most upto date version that spybot has.

Hello,

You mean you did not update the fix. You do not need to, your Spybot is fine and your advcheck is not damaged. It was only for those users who got a runtime error 216.

So I did not need to hit the reply?
And hitting abort was ok?
But my SpyBot version is still now behind at version 1.6.2.46 thought the properties on the dll states another version.

I have seen other peoples dll file version showing 1.6.4.18 which mine is not, mine is 1.6.3.17 which is different from the version of Spybot that is on the console info panel that says its version 1.6.2.46, So I am confused as to which is right?

The 1.6.2.46 you see in the info panel is for Spybot the program. That's the latest version of Spybot. That is supposed to be different than the file version number you see in properties for advcheck.dll

The 1.6.3.17 you see in properties is the file version of advcheck.dll.

My advcheck.dll file version is 1.6.4.18 because I hit Retry,so it updated.
Yours didn't,since you hit Abort, but since the update was just to correct a runtime error, apparently, you don't need to worry about it.
