Computer turned off during scan

Yesterday I upgraded to Spybot S&D 1.4.
During a spyware scan the computer just turned off.
I tried a second and a third time and the same thing happened.
Does anyone know why this happens?

Laptop?

This may sound strange but; Spybot is quite CPU intensive. Is it possible that your system is shutting down due to a heat related problem? This is most prevelant in some laptops. Are the fans in the system running properly?

Thanks for the reply.

I'm using an desktop PC.

Scanning was no problem with Spybot S&D 1.3

Recently the proccesor fan was replaced, but by a better one.

I don't know what software you are running but you could check the Event Viewer and see if it gives you a clue as to what is happening.

In Windows XP:
  1. Click Start and Control Panel.
  2. Double-click on Administrative Tools. If you do not see the Administrative Tools icon, you need to change your view. On the left-hand side of the window, click "Switch to Classic View", then double-click on Administrative Tools.
  3. Double-click on the Event Viewer.
  4. Click on "System" in the left-hand column.
  5. Now, in the right-hand side of the window, look for any event which might give you an idea as what is happening.
  6. Double-click on the event and it will open the Event Properties with additional details.
Added with edit:

Also some systems have a BIOS "System Event Log" that may help determine the cause. On my Dell to view it you have to re-boot, press F2 to get into the BIOS screen and then select "System Event Log".
