Yesterday I upgraded to Spybot S&D 1.4.
During a spyware scan the computer just turned off.
I tried a second and a third time and the same thing happened.
Does anyone know why this happens?
This may sound strange but; Spybot is quite CPU intensive. Is it possible that your system is shutting down due to a heat related problem? This is most prevelant in some laptops. Are the fans in the system running properly?
I don't know what software you are running but you could check the Event Viewer and see if it gives you a clue as to what is happening.
In Windows XP:
Click Start and Control Panel.
Double-click on Administrative Tools. If you do not see the Administrative Tools icon, you need to change your view. On the left-hand side of the window, click "Switch to Classic View", then double-click on Administrative Tools.
Double-click on the Event Viewer.
Click on "System" in the left-hand column.
Now, in the right-hand side of the window, look for any event which might give you an idea as what is happening.
Double-click on the event and it will open the Event Properties with additional details.
Added with edit:
Also some systems have a BIOS "System Event Log" that may help determine the cause. On my Dell to view it you have to re-boot, press F2 to get into the BIOS screen and then select "System Event Log".
