Hi Everyone,
I just got a new machine and its got an Athlon 64bit processor, so I installed Windows XP x64 edition. My problem is that when I run Spybot 1.5, there is a significant delay before it opens (about 37 seconds). I checked the process list and found that it is running during this period at 49 - 51%. It is running in 32-bit mode and is tagged 'SpybotSD.exe *32.

All other programs are running great, as far as I know. Could someone suggest how I might find the culprit? I'm not sure where to start.

Peace,
James

p.s. I have not tried 1.4 on this machine - I just grabbed the latest and went with it.

just discovered something else which may have a clue

I just clicked the 'Search for Updates' button and again SB snagged 50% CPU for about 20 seconds and the program was kinda frozen for that period of time. No other functions that I have used, like Immunize or registry search, have caused this odd delay.

Again, thanks for taking a look at this.

There were many reports of Spybot 1.5.1.15 itself starting slowly and consuming a lot of CPU time. The problem has been found and fixed. See the following tracking task (which includes a link for a fix to the problem):
In addition there are another beta versions of Spybot 1.5 that solve the slow start as well as other known problems that have been encountered since the original release of Spybot 1.5. One of the beta programs is:
