After today's updates (2007-02-02), there is no manual download for Detection updates (spybotsd_includes.exe) included on the Downloads - The home of Spybot-S&D! WEB page. i.e.:
  • Detection updates 2007-02-02 - product description
    md5: BC119094DA6C972484B4C965A7C7BA4A

    This updates the detection rules. Only needed if you do not want to use the update function integrated into Spybot-S&D.

Just wondering why. I use this to manually download, primarily because I cannot download updates using the update functionality from S&D. Please see error and may be you can help me.

Error retrieving update info file!
Socket error # 10060
Connection timed out

Yes, I know I'm certainly one of those who have been depending on the manual downloads as SSD14's internal update function has never worked properly for me (and since the manual download of the weekly spybotsd_includes.exe was readily available it was not a 'real' issue).

I've no idea of how many users this affects, but the manual download option was quite a boon for users when SSD14's internal update does not function properly for whatever reason - possibly some others may also see this as a loss.

Oh well, at least there's an md5 .. perhaps this is merely a temporary thing?
 
Please bring back the manual update

No more manual updates??? I've used the manual updates to protect a group of pcs through a script so I didn't have to manually log onto the firewall from each just to use the built in update feature.

Please don't make me go back to the dark days of comparing an updated includes to a non updated includes and then create my own self extracting zip to do this.

I'm sure if you check the number of weekly downloads of the manual update you'll see that it's a feature that many of us like.

Please bring back the manual updates
