Launch Registry Search
In the search box, enter

NordBull


Under
Search
, make sure only the
Value
box is checked in the first row of checkboxes. All other checkboxes should be checked.

& click
Ok
.
Notepad will open with some text in it (the file will also be saved in the program's folder as well).

Hi,

Create cfscript with the following contents and run ComboFix with it in safe mode. Reboot back to normal mode and see if the entries still pop back.

Hi,

That's old ComboFix log. Do you have the fresh one there?

Sorry. I must seem really stupid for not checking the dates before I posted. Here's the latest one. It doesn't say it was run in Safe Mode though. AVG was running but I couldn't disable it in safe mode. The report also shows PC tools firewall plus as running but it never loaded at start-up and I received no errors from the program like I did when I forgot to disable the program. I can run it again if I have to.

Hi,

I'd try to uninstall AVG and then remove those entries with hjt & reboot. If entries are still there then uninstall ThreatFire and try entry removal again. If still doesn't help, uninstall PC Tools Firewall (enable Windows own firewall from Windows security center in control panel) and try entry fixing.

I downloaded a full version of AVG from the website. If I uninstall it, I shouldn't have to pay for a full version again, should I? I still have the serial number for my copy so I can install it again. I just don't want to have to pay for the program again.

Hi,

You didn't try to uninstall ThreatFire yet. How did you uninstall PC Tools Firewall? I see its startup entry still there.

I had uninstalled the firewall but I reinstalled it after the computer restarted. I unfortunately did it before I ran Hijack This. I didn't want to run the risk of other people getting on the computer with those programs uninstalled. Threat Fire and the PC Tools firewall were installed after spybot found the malware. Will uninstalling these programs really change anything?

The thing is that I believe one of those programs is preventing us from removing the registry entry. In normal conditions HijackThis should have no problem in removing it.

You may try and see if disabling Windows Defender protection lets you remove the entry with hjt:

Disable Windows Defender's realtime protection.

• Open Windows Defender
• Click on
  Tools
  
• Click on
  General Settings
  
• Scroll down to
  Real-time protection options
  
• Uncheck
  Turn on Real-time protection (recommended)
  
• Click
  Save
  
• Exit the program.

Okay I uninstalled AVG, ThreatFire, Windows Defender, and PC Tools Firewall plus. Ran Hijack This and tried removing the entries. Then I ran the scan again to see if they had been removed and the entries are still there. I can try using the script in ComboFix again now that I've gotten everything removed.

We're gonna try to remove those entries manually.

Click Start then Run
Type in regedit
Click Ok.

In left side of registry editor, navigate to:

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Right click NordBull value in right panel and select delete.

Then navigate to HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and delete NordBull value there.

Guess we were on the same page because that's just what I did and I was just signing on to tell you. I just now read your response. The problem was those entries were locked and I had to change the permissions from system to administrator. I guess that's probably why the other programs wouldn't delete the entries. Also, there was three entries of it and I had to go back and locate the other two. I had removed one in safemode then ran hijack this only to find out the two were still showing up. I ran regsearch and realized that I had only deleted the entry in the software location and not the ones located underneath Windows.
Here's the new hijack this log to prove that they're gone.

Good. I probably should had mentioned about manual removal earlier but it's more risky than using tools and so I left it unsaid.


Are you still noticing any problems? If not, it's time to secure your system to prevent against further intrusions.


THESE STEPS ARE VERY IMPORTANT

Let's reset system restore
Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected. Please note you need Administrator Access to do clean the restore points.

1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
NOTE: only do this ONCE,NOT on a regular basis


Now lets uninstall ComboFix:

• Click START then RUN
• Now copy-paste Combofix /uninstall in the runbox and click OK

Please download OTC and save it to desktop.

• Double-click OTC.exe.
• Click the CleanUp! button.
• Select Yes when the
  Begin cleanup Process?
  prompt appears.
• If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, select Yes.
• The tool will delete itself once it finishes, if not delete it by yourself.

Note: If you receive a warning from your firewall or other security programs regarding OTC attempting to contact the internet, please allow it to do so.



UPDATING WINDOWS AND INTERNET EXPLORER

IMPORTANT: You Need to Update Windows and Internet Explorer to protect your computer from the malware that is around on the Internet. Please go to the windows update site to get the critical updates.

If you are running Microsoft Office, or any portion thereof, go to the Microsoft's Office Update site and make sure you have at least all the critical updates installed (Free) Microsoft Office Update.


Make your Internet Explorer more secure

This can be done by following these simple instructions:
From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
Click once on the Security tab
Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
Click once on the Custom Level button.
Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.




Just a final reminder for you. I am trying to stress these two points.
UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE!!! Make sure you do this about every 1-2 weeks.
Make sure all of your security programs are up to date.
Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

Well after I deleted the entries, I tried reinstalling the software I had taken out. Windows would partially load and then shut down for no apparent reason. It did this five or six times. I ran CHKDSK in the recovery consul and I tried working in safe mode but nothing worked. I tried using the system restore option but it didn't fix the problem. Eventually had to use system recovery so I could get to a point where Windows would completely load. After I did the initial set-up, I checked to see if the malware was gone and it was. I'm still trying to get the computer back to the way it was. Currently I'm having some problems with locked folders. I've taken ownership of them before but it's been awhile.

As it stands now, I only have Windows firewall running (at least until I can get the other folders unlocked). I was able to get the anti-virus installed again so I'm not completely unprotected.
