Thanks. I had missed a step in there. That's why it wasn't working. Also, do you know of any problems with Windows Defender? I had to do a system restore after I tried re-installing it the other day then had to do it again yesterday after I moved the installation files to the recycle bin. I'm a little hesitent on trying to install the program again. I'm still trying to get things back to normal.

Hi,

What's the issue you're having with Windows Defender? You might want to try Microsoft Security Essentials that contains antivirus and antispyware protection (it replaces Windows Defender).

I'm not sure. After I had deleted the malware entries in the registry, I started installing the programs again. Windows Defender was the last program I tried to install before the computer got stuck in a reboot loop i.e. it would load windows partially then shut down before it loaded everything. It got stuck and I couldn't fix it until I did the system restore. Then after I had restored all I could, I installed Windows Defender then moved the set up files to the recycle bin. After that, it got stuck in that start-up loop again and I had to go back and do another system restore.

Can't say what could be the issue then. If you haven't installed antivirus solution yet then might want to try MSE that I mentioned in previous post.

Well I re-installed AVG but I also downloaded MSE just to be safe. So far I haven't experienced any problems. The nice thing with MSE is that it tells me if there's a software security problem with any of Microsoft's applications. If all goes well, I should have the computer back to normal in a few days.

Hi,

It's recommended to not have more than one antivirus program running. Since MSE has antivirus module too you should either uninstall MSE or AVG.
