S&D problems "found" can't be "fixed" (Solved)

AdAware used to be an extremely good program, but in all honesty it is of limited use now.
With MalwareBytes an SpyBot installed, you don't really need it.

I have other questions about removing files and other matters

Errm ...... what are your questions ? , if I can answer them I will.
If I can't, I may know where you should ask them :)

Katana, I apologize :red: - I thought that since the rest of my questions were not malware removal they should be posted in other forums but apparently I misunderstood. I'm very happy to have you answer further questions :)!
Here's my other post...

"I'm cleaning up my existing old (2002) computer so I can set up a newer computer and put the old one in my 9-year old grandson's room (and use wireless network router to give internet access-but that's another post). Thanks to the efforts of a special SNF Security Expert the old one is now virus- and malware-free, but I have some questions about removing what seem to be lingering files and I'm hoping one of you "experts" can help me out!

Two folders under C:/Program Files - WebSavings and *WildTangent - still have files in them but those programs do not appear in the Control Panel Add/Remove Programs list. Is it OK to simply delete those folders and files? I may previously have removed the programs from the Add/Remove list and just don't remember doing it. I don't know if removing programs that way leaves extra files that you need to manually delete.

*I don't play games so I'd just as soon eliminate WildTangent whether it's spyware or not. Probably was downloaded by my daughter, who no longer lives here. She used AIM and played games.

The same as above is true for Norton Antivirus (which my daughter installed without asking) - it's not on Add/Remove list but still has a folder under Program Files with files in it, and it still appears in the list of all programs when clicking the Start button."

My "other post" reference as to Internet access for my 9-year old is because I wonder if there are programs out there designed to "babysit" kids computers to automatically block bad sites (in addition to the security levels you can set on internet explorer).

1) C:/Program Files - WebSavings and *WildTangent - ~ Is it OK to simply delete those folders and files?~ I don't know if removing programs that way leaves extra files that you need to manually delete.

2) Norton Antivirus

3) Internet access for my 9-year old ~ programs out there designed to "babysit" kids computers

1) You can delete those folders, most programs leave a few stray items behind when you uninstall them.

2) Norton is notorious for not uninstalling properly, so much so that they have created a tool to remove it

Remove Norton

Please click HERE and follow the instructions to download and run the norton removal tool

3) It depends what you mean by "Bad Sites", if you mean ones that are known malware sites then you can use McAfee Site Advisor or SiteHound
If you mean "Unsuitable" sites, then there are many programs that are designed with "Parental Restrictions" in mind
You can read more about those HERE

Files deleted and Norton is removed. I'm going to run a S&D and see what comes up but as I may fall asleep before the darn thing is done I wanted to get this post in. I'll check out the link on the parental restrictions - thanks again for all your help. I'll let you know if anything still comes up in the scan.

One of the reasons I originally posted was because I was having a problem with S&D. After attempting to fix problems, it would list a few that could not be deleted without rebooting, and offered to scan immediately upon reboot. Well it does scan immediately upon reboot but never gives you the opportunity to fix what was scanned - it takes you right to the main screen, at which point you can run another scan but then you wind up right back where you started, with the same message about needing to reboot to fix certain found items. Is this a known problem with S&D? Do I need to post this in another folder?

Thanks.

There are no problems in that Spybot log, are you sure you selected

Include results of last check in report

Yes, I'm sure. I had deleted those folders manually and I think that took care of the problem. My post was actually intended to ask why does Spybot ask you to let it scan upon reboot (after files were found but could not be fixed), but then once the scan is complete you are not given the opportunity to fix anything found, before the rest of the system reboots?

When you select the items be deleted, Spybot will automatically remove them on reboot (if it is able).
The scan is to make sure they are gone.

But the scan results aren't listed when it's done scanning. It just brings me to the main screen, which does show in the lower left-hand corner how many items were found but there doesn't seem to be a way to retrieve the list. Maybe it's saved as a log file?

Katana, sorry for not responding to your last post. I had some problems that sort of put everything else on hold. But I think everything seems fine with my computer. I've run a couple of scans and nothing that wasn't easily "fixed" has shown up. I appreciate your assistance very much - you're the best!

Thanks for letting me know
