Spyware and HJT Scans Are Aborted

Hi,

Let's try other ark scanner.

  1. Download RootRepeal from the following location and save it to your desktop.
  2. Open
    rootRepealDesktopIcon.png
    on your desktop.
  3. Click the
    reportTab.png
    tab.
  4. Click the
    btnScan.png
    button.
  5. Check all seven boxes:
    checkBoxes2.png
  6. Push Ok
  7. Check the box for your main system drive (Usually C:), and press Ok.
  8. Allow RootRepeal to run a scan of your system. This may take some time.
  9. Once the scan completes, push the
    saveReport.png
button. Save the log to your desktop, using a distinctive name, such as RootRepeal.txt. Include this report in your next reply, please.

This one didn't work either. (Sigh) I downloaded it, opened it, and started running the scan. Pretty soon after, the program shut itself down.

A file called "settings.dat" appeared on the desktop.

This time the program icon didn't disappear but I get a "not found" error when I try to open it. For some reason, a little graphic (network sharing?) got added to the RootRepeal icon.

Windows now will not allow me to put the RootRepeal in the recycle bin or move it to a folder.

One more thing:

When I click on the details about Windows needing my permissions to delete or move the folder (which ultimately doesn't get done), it says File Operations 3AD05575-8857-4850-9277-11B85BDB8E09.

Could this be a clue?

Hi,

I have picture of the infection. We just have to get it removed :)

A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

Download Combofix*from any of the links below. You must*rename it before saving it (use name iEXplore.exe). Save it to your desktop.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Double click on iEXplore.exe*& follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the C:\ComboFix.txt along with a HijackThis log*so we can continue cleaning the system.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

I'll plan to run this program later today when I'm off work and won't be using my machine. I also have few questions for you:

1. Your warning is a little scary to me. How risky is it to run Combo Fix? Are there any sort of back-ups I should do before running it?

2. Your text recommends renaming it as iEXplore.exe, but the image recommends renaming it as Combo-Fix. Does it matter which name I use?

3. You ask that I post a HijackThis log, but in the past I haven't been able to run HijackThis. Will I be able to run it after I run Combo Fix?

Thanks.

1. Risk isn't too high but it would still be recommended to have your important stuff backuped.
2. Yes, screenshot is just an example to give some picture how the renaming should be done. Name it as instructed.
3. Let's leave hjt off for now.

Good :)

Please update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware definitions and run a quick scan. Let it delete all findings and post back the report it creates.

Please save this file to your desktop. Double-click on it to run a scan. When it's finished, there will be a log called Win32kDiag.txt on your desktop. Attach it to your post.

Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here or here or here.
Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds.scr to run the tool.
  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
    1. DDS.txt
    2. Attach.txt
  • Save both reports to your desktop. Post them back to your topic.

I was able to run MBAM. A quick scan found no infections. A log seemed to be generated, but I couldn't open it... getting the error that it wasn't "a valid Win32 application."

I was able to generate the other three logs. I'm posting them in a zip file here.

Thanks.

Hi,

Are you able to locate the log (check %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs folder)? Please attach the log to your post if you can find it.

Open notepad and then copy and paste the bolded lines below into it. Go to File > save as and name the file regExport.bat, change the Save as type to all files and save it to your desktop.
regedit /a c:\regExport.txt "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\txtfile\shell\open"
del %0

Double-click on regExport.bat file to execute it. You should end up with c:\regExport.txt file. Attach it to your post.

Disable Spybot's TeaTimer to make sure it won't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
  • Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode
  • If it is not already set to do this, go to the Mode menu
    select
    Advanced Mode
  • On the left hand side, click on Tools
  • Then click on the Resident icon in the list
  • Uncheck
    Resident TeaTimer
    and OK any prompts.
  • Restart your computer

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

Code:
Registry::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\security center\Monitoring]
"DisableMonitoring"=-
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\security center\Monitoring\SymantecAntiVirus]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\security center\Monitoring\SymantecFirewall]

Save this as
CFScript

Close all browser windows and refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe
Then post the resultant log.

Please run an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner as instructed in the screenshot here.

Post back its report, a fresh dds.txt log and above mentioned ComboFix resultant log.

I was able to get the Malwarebytes log. I'm attaching it here.

I was able to set up the RegExport.bat, but I couldn't get it to run. When I clicked on it, it would disappear from my desktop and no log was generated.

Also, I couldn't do a Spybot scan. The teatimer icon (with the little lock) appears in my tray sometimes, but nothing happens when I right-click it and tell it to run Spybot S&D. If I search for Spybot S&D in my Windows menu, the icon appears but clicking on it gets me to "file not found."

Should I uninstall and reinstall Spybot? If so, what options should I choose in the uninstallation?

Or should I skip the regExport.bat and the Spybot scan for now and go ahead with the other things on the list?

Hi,

Please run Win32kdiag again and wait until it has finished. Attach the log to your reply.

Leave Spybot install until later and follow those other steps listed in my previous post.

Hi,

Win32kdiag log should end with "Finished!" line. Did you let it run long enough?

Ok. I'll wait for the other results before giving the next action list.
