Trojan Kill.AV problems

Have a problem. A Windows Security Popup, have ran my symantic and it identifies it as a trojan Kill.AV but is not really removed after I run it. The Tojan has shut down my Windows update and my Contrl panel acess and other updates.Can you help>

You're infected.

At first you need to disable a few realtime protections. These may interfere with our cleaning process.
We'll enable these when you're clean...

Disable Spybot S&D Teatimer.
  • Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode
  • If it is not already set to do this, go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
  • On the left hand side, click on Tools
  • Then click on the Resident icon in the list
  • Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
  • Restart your computer

1. Download this file - combofix.exe
2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall
 
Combofix may be stalled?

Thanks for helping. I turned off teatimer and rebooted and downloaded combofix. The opening window came up and I typed in 1. The windows security popup came up at that point and I keystroked an N to get rid of it. (no mouse click)... 5 hours later I have the same opening window.
So have I screwed it up already? I am leaving everything up and running and awaitung your reply.

tried combo fix again but...

I Closed Combofix and tried it again. The top of the window by the icon says preparing to run and after I type 1 it says nothing. There is a pulsing yellow bar next to the 1 I typed... but then the popup comes back over the application window and the bar (which I left there.) It has been up about 45 minutes not appearing to be doing anything. Should I have turned my Symantic Stuff off in addition to teatimer?
I also ran Windows Defender a couple days ago but turned off the real time protection before trying Combofix. That's all new I've tried since posting HJT log.

Ok that's interesting but don't worry. Don't disable Symantec's protection.

Let's try in safe mode.

Restart your computer to the safe mode:
  • Restart your computer
  • Start tapping the F8 key when the computer restarts.
  • When the start menu opens, choose Safe mode
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.

Now try to run ComboFix.

If it works, restart the computer and post the ComboFix log to here :bigthumb:

Did the safemode logged in as administrator. Located Combofix through search because it did not show up otherwise. When I tried to run Combofix, the same things happened, opening with preparing to run message, popup over window and then just hanging. I have it still up and running in safemode right now. Can I delete and install it again? or whatever you suggest.

Ok we'll forget the ComboFix for a while then...you may close the application and restart the pc to normal mode.

Does a file C:\ComboFix.txt exist?

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.
 
no Combofix.txt - link not working

Couldn't locate a text file and am still trying to download vundofix from your link. It may be down temporarily so i will try again later and post what you requested if I get it to download. I will post again with a file or let you know that I could not get it to download after a few hours.

Hello again,
Here is what I have going. I got VundoFix from MajorGeeks site and ran it. When it asked if I want to remove these files I clicked yes. The icons on my desktop disappeaedr and then the popup came back and things are now just hanging. My icons are gone but my desktop background is still there. the vundoFix box is grayed back with the popup being the active box.

That is where it is now, so any ideas?
 
Hmm ok let's do some research...

You may close VundoFix (end the process Vundofix.exe via Task Manager if anything else doesn't help)

Please run a GMER Rootkit scan:

Download GMER's application from here:
http://www.gmer.net/gmer.zip

Unzip it and start the GMER.exe
Click the Rootkit tab and click the Scan button.

Once done, click the Copy button.
This will copy the results to your clipboard.
Paste the results in your next reply.

Warning ! Please, do not select the "Show all" checkbox during the scan.
 
Got a VundoFix .txt file!

After getting rid of the popup (I'm leary of touching them now when something is in process) Vundofix wanted to reboot ... So I have a txt file! I will post a new HJT this file seperately.

Disable Spybot S&D Teatimer.
  • Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode
  • If it is not already set to do this, go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
  • On the left hand side, click on Tools
  • Then click on the Resident icon in the list
  • Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.

Please download AVG Anti-Spyware to your Desktop or to your usual Download Folder.

Please download the Killbox.
Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once the scan is complete, Right Click inside the listbox (white box) and click add more files
  • Copy&Paste the entry below into the top box
  • C:\WINDOWS\system32\__c006A314.dat
  • Click Add Files and Click Close Window
  • Click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

Stop the following processes using Task Manager (press ctrl+alt+del, select the Processes tab, highlight the first process in the list and click End Process). Continue through the list (one at a time) until all processes have been ended. If something isn't found, please continue with the next process in the list.

Restart your computer to the safe mode:
  • Restart your computer
  • Start tapping the F8 key when the computer restarts.
  • When the start menu opens, choose Safe mode
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.

Run ATF Cleaner
  • Under Main choose: Select All

If you use Firefox browser

Close ALL open Windows / Programs / Folders. Please start AVG Anti-Spyware and run a full scan.

    • Make sure that Set all elements to: shows Quarantine (1), if not click on the link and choose Quarantine from the popup menu. (2)

I believe I was able to do things as you asked.
Only thing is that AVG would not let me save a log after I clicked Apply all actions... the box grayed out.

I'm thinking I still have some problems because my control panel is not back.
However, when I rebooted after Vundofix, 5 different Windows updates automatically installed.

Oh, I forgot to tell you that I couldn't run Task Manager.
Computer message said I did not have administrative permission. First time it did that on task manager.

Hi again.

More strange things...
I could not log in as administrator this time or last boot up. The program locks me out and I cannot access control panel

The only time I have been able to log in as administrator is in safe mode. This is a family computer so no administrative rights have been changed from default stuff so the trojan must have altered something.

I could not at first rename the hijack file because a message said the administrator would not let me . So I downloaded hijackthis again and ran it... and them renamed it and ran it again. I don't know if that is any help to you, but hopefully it can help you somewhat. Sorry if I am making this worse.
