Ugh...this is nasty

I was cleaning a friends laptop from some spyware. They have trend micro and it cleaned up, but not all. Tried installing spybot but would not install. Ran a HJT and cleaned as best I could for the errors on a few specific spy programs Quickbrowser.exe through the RUN registry keys and the program file in root of C: Trend Micro is still throwing the warning messages up and some blocked sites are not loading, but others still are. Tempted to just do a clean install at this point, but figured another set of eyes is always helpful...tia

(kind of off-topic but why do people take such obvious talent and do crap like this?)

Am I clean? (Will try SS&D tomorrow, but winblows is updating again, and no popups or Trend Micro errors...) I found a post about entries with no names in them here:

so I deleted the associated keys, removed the Java and it seems clean now...thoughts?

Will also remove restore points, and create a new one tomorrow, then pronounce clean...would like to hear back on this if possible. Thanks night owls! :)

I realized I hadn't used Spybot after the original HJT scan and correction, so booted into Safe Mode, ran a scan, and it's finding entries to fix, but cannot fix all, so I reboot (and start S&D), and it finds the same errors again. Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

How is the computer running?

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    • Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
    • Scan Archives
      Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:
    • Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.
 
Actually, my buddy needed it back to do some checkbook and accounting stuff. If I can get him to bring it over, I'll run the online scan and post here. Thanks for the help though in pointing me where I needed to go. Problem solved!
