Virtumonde and other malware .... really need some advice.

Hey folks,
Looks Like I got slammed hard. I read the preliminary reading before I posted. Here is what I am seeing: xxyxxx.dll and other add-on enabled in IE even after I disable them. Spybot S&D detecting approx 50+ entries of spyware .... spybot then warns that it itself has been injected with malicious code. I ran HJT and here is the output.

Any help in the matter would be greatly appreciated!

Step # 1:Remove one of your Anti Virus programs.

You are operating your computer with multiple Anti Virus programs running in memory at once:

Avast
Mcafee

Anti-virus programs take up an enormous amount of your computer's resources when they are actively scanning your computer. Having two anti-virus programs running at the same time can cause your computer to run very slow, become unstable and even, in rare cases, crash.

Please remove one of them.


Step # 2 Upload Files


Go to http://virusscan.jotti.org
Copy the following line into the white textbox:
C:\WINDOWS\regchecka.exe
Click Submit.
Please post the results of this scan to this thread.



Go to http://www.virustotal.com/en/indexf.html
Copy the following line into the white textbox:
C:\WINDOWS\regchecka.exe
Click Send.

Step # 3: Download and Run ComboFix

• Download this file from either of the two below listed places :
  
  http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
  http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
  
• Then double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
• When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall



Step # 4: Make an uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.

You will now be presented with a screen similar to the one below:

5. Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here on your next reply.


Step # 5 Post Logs

In your next post/reply, I'd like to see the following:

• 1. Jotti/VirusTotal results
  2. ComboFix log (C:\Combofix.txt)
  3. Uninstall List
  4. A fresh HiJackThis Log

If you can't fit all the logs into one post/reply, then use multiple posts/replies to get all the logs in.

Step # 1: Remove McAfee Remnants

Looking through your logs, I see that you have some remnants of Mcafee.

Please download the McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool and run it. The instructions for it are as follows:

- Double click MCPR.exe
- A Command Line window will be displayed, and then close automatically.
- Wait for a second Command Line window to be displayed. Note: Do not double-click MCPR.exe again, you may have to wait up to 1 minute for the next window to appear.
- After the second window appears, the program will begin the cleanup.
- Observe the installation, which could take several minutes. The following message will be displayed in the Command Line window: The machine must reboot to complete the un-installation. Reboot now? [y.n]
- Press Y on the keyboard.
- Wait for the computer to restart.

Step # 2 Upload Files


Go to http://virusscan.jotti.org
Copy the following line into the white textbox:

Click Submit.

Really quick question ..... since spybot S&d reported that it was injected with malware before you began helping me, should I uninstall and reinstall spybot? .... But .... since I've been following your lead the past few days, spybot hasn't complained about it. Should I assume all is good??

When will I know if I'm clean or not? Moving forward, can you make any recommendations as to how to better protect my machine?

Currently I have all MS updates installed and running. MS FW is blocking all inbound traffic. Spybot S&D and teatimer running. Avast antivirus running all updates are set to install automatically. Ran through the IE security recommendations.

Should I install spyblaster? can it coesxist with SpybotS&D? Should I also abandon IE and use OPera or Firefox for online banking?

You don't need to uninstall and reinstall Spybot as it looks like ComboFix has taken care of whatever was causing Spybot to be injected with malware. Please tell me if Spybot reports that it was injected with malware again during the time that I'm helping you with your computer.


Please re-run the McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool that I had you download earlier.


Step # 1: Remove Hijackthis Entries

• Run HijackThis
• Click on the Scan button
• Put a check beside all of the items listed below (if present):
