spy bot srch & destoy keeps shuting down

I have tried to use the spybot search and destroy. When i start the process it starts to scan but then the cumputer shuts down or it will sometimes says user abort. My computer is still slow and does what it wants. I need help please

Check the CPU Cooler Fan on your PC

I had the same problem. I was advised to check the CPU cooler fan on my PC. Sure enough, it wasn't running so I got a new one and, sure enough, my PC does not shut down any more when I run SpyBot. :bigthumb:

Basically, Spybot is more CPU intensive than any other program you run on your PC. If the fan isn't running then your CPU runs too hot and, if you are lucky, the PC does an emergency shut down. :sad: If not you get silicon fondu

As NewForester indicated, Spybot is quite CPU intensive. It is possible that the CPU overheating and the system is shutting down to protect the processor.

Suggestions:

1. Make sure that the fans are running and that dust is cleared from any ventilation ports in the case.
2. For desktops (See Caution! below):
   • Consider opening the case and checking to make sure the CPU heat sink is not dusty or loose.
3. For laptops (See Caution! below):
   • If your owner's manual tells you how to open the case (IBM ThinkPads and Dell Inspirons generally do), consider opening the case and checking to make sure the CPU heat sink is not dusty.
   • If you have a laptop with one of the one of the following processors:
     • Mobile Pentium III-M
     • Mobile Pentium 4-M
     • Mobile Pentium 4
     • Mobile Pentium M / Centrino
     • Mobile AMD
