I don't know which is useful:
IE6: Not safe.
IE7: Needs WGA - Windows Geuine Advantage and it has compatibility only on Vista and XP SP2.
Firefox: Read this.
Opera: Not compatible with all web pages.
Safari: Now supports Windows, but I don't know anything about it.
Netscape Navigator: I don't know anything about it.
Crazy Browser: I saw that browser in magazines, but it seems unpopular. Does someone know this browser?
If you got some sources about browsers, you could add a link to it (if administrator of this forum allows).

I didn't vote because I use three browsers, IE7, Opera and Firefox; and I wouldn't give up any of them.

If I had to choose, Opera would be my first choice but I switch according to what it is I want to accomplish.

IE7 makes it easy to integrate "LIVE" programs such as Live Writer, Live MSN, Live Spaces etc. I think it has come a long way since IE6 and is more secure.

Firefox is always a favourite and has great adds ons such as FlashBlock, Web Developer and Adblock Plus among many others.

BTW, I very rarely have a problem with Opera and web page compatibility, no more so than any other browser.

Firefox. I'm a customization freak. :red:

I also use other Gecko-based browsers like Netscape, K-Ninja and K-Meleon.

I use either K-Ninja and K-Meleon if I'm not anywhere near my PC, as both don't need any installation and will play nice with my school policies.

I use (and test) Firefox, Seamonkey and Opera. Mainly it is Firefox and I love it. With little memory overheads you can customise it and make it ultra-safe.

I use IE 7 and Firefox, and Opera and Avant browser on my other computer also, but Firefox is by far my favorite. It`s just less clunky, and I`ve hardly ever had any problems with it.

IE7: Needs WGA - Windows Geuine Advantage and it has compatibility only on Vista and XP SP2.

IE7 doesn't have WGA anymore (it is microsoft's idea trying to make internet explorer 7 the most popular browser on the planet. By having WGA microsoft were only targeting 'valid' windows users and blocking out everyone else. But now the WGA is gone, they still have to tackle the sp2 compatibility issues)

I myself voted for firefox...because it is the best:red:

as for safari...i don't really know much about it, apart from apple's claims about its performance which im sceptible about.

Apple claims that safari is the fastest web browser on any platform. It says safari loads pages up to 2 times faster than Internet Explorer 7 and up to 1.7 times faster than Firefox 2. And it executes JavaScript up to 3 times faster than Internet Explorer 7 and up to 2 times faster than Firefox 2.

All from the safari website...

ill try to post url: http://www.apple.com/safari/

for the average user I would recommend firefox because it is fast, stable and safe.

for the experienced user I would recommend firefox because it is fast, stable and safe.

...and customisable

...and also firefox 3 will be coming out soon! (i think early next year)

firefox 3 will fix sooo many bugs and memory leaks, and it will pass the acid 2 test. at the moment the only browsers that pass the acid 2 test (on your list) are opera and safari.

you can read more about the acid 2 test at: http://www.webstandards.org/action/acid2/

(and you can take the test)

I understand and accept that opera is the fastest browser at the moment (i havent tested it yet), but I think if it can't render certain pages it's main argument for being the best browser is gone...

As for the claim on the 'firefox myths' page that opera is the safest browser, im not too sure about that:)

Safari starts up fast (as compared with Firefox or Opera), but loading of pages is comparable with Firefox or Opera.

:FF: *Firefox Update* :FF:

"Firefox 3 beta 2 is now scheduled to be available to the public on December 21, Mozilla developers say.

The browser code is now in the quality assurance phase and will enjoy its first round of scrutiny during a test day being held on December 14. If all goes well, it will be made available to the general public before Christmas.

Beta 2 will incorporate performance improvements, bug fixes and “user facing enhancements to the location bar,” said Mike Beltzner, a developer on the project.

“The plan is for the beta release to be on December 21st, but depending on what’s found during the QA phase, that date might slip,” Beltzner reported in an e-mail." Zdnet.com

hmm I already found a download site with Firefox 3.0 beta 2 is available for download - filehippo.com

but to be fair, I would rather trust Mozilla developers than some download site...

:FF:

It's already available. I'm still waiting for my homepage to be fixed.

Homepage - about:blank, but it always show this: http://3/

Getting on my nerves.

Although i only use IE6 and Firefox, i admit that firefox is better sometimes :) However, i do not like the quiteness of firefox without the 'click' sound when u click on a hyperlink.
Hence i prefer IE6. Are there any problems/security issues with IE6? I can see that not many ppl are using IE

I find that IE is a bit slower than Firefox when it comes to rendering websites. And sometimes end up in errors, whereas other browsers have no such issues at all.

Security is another issue, because at default level, it runs ActiveX automatically. Not good in my opinion.

Any browser has vulnerabilities, but since internet explorer 6 (and 7) were made by microsoft. And since microsoft's windows is the most popular operating system on the planet, internet explorer is the most popular browser on the planet. The more popular the browser, the more 'bad' people you will have to take advantage of it. So hackers and other 'bad' people take advantage of any vulnerabilities that internet explorer has because:
1. microsoft is very slow to patch up their software to block known vulnerabilities
2. Because it is so popular, they can take advantage of more people

This applies to all browsers, including firefox. Except the difference between firefox and internet explorer is that Mozilla regularly updates and patches it's software (to block new vulnerabilities)> One example of this was when Mozilla updated firefox to 2.0.0.10. Within one day, they found major vulnerabilities, so the next day they released 2.0.0.11.

Internet explorer hasn't been updated for years (until now). So the point is that internet explorer 6 is only good at blocking threats from years ago. 'bad' people have found new ways to hijack and do other mean stuff to people through their browsers. Internet explorer 6 has no defense against these new threats.

Anyway for a good secure browser, (you probably know what im going to say!) I recommend firefox :FF:

You can download here:
http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/products/firefox/

(heh that is the Europe link - I live in the UK)

Q-Anyway you may think. What is so bad about internet explorer 7 then? It has a phishing filter and it is updated to block all the latest threats.

A-Well the truth is that internet explorer 7 has been found to have some vulnerabilities aswell (one of which is that the default browser setting is not high enough - including it running ActiveX as ndmmxiaomayi explained) (well microsoft aren't that good at making a browser! Look where they got the tabbed browsing idea from...)

But internet explorer 7 is still an OK browser and I recommend at least upgrading to internet explorer 7, to patch up most of the holes in internet explorer 6.

Btw im testing out firefox 3.0 beta 2 atm, and it is soooo much easier to use than internet explorer 7. But I don't recommend firefox 3.0 beta because it is still in beta status.

Anyway some people like internet explorer. (partly because it came with windows. And partly because they always had it) One of those people was my mum. She just couldn't cope with the idea of 'tabbed' browsing. But I managed to persuade her to upgrade to internet explorer 7 (and I tried to make it look as much like internet explorer 6 as possible, and also disabled a couple of features, including tabbed browsing (obviously! :)))

At the end of the day it is up to the user to decide what browser suits YOUR needs.

Merry Christmas :)

*update*

Internet explorer 8, passes the acid 2 test. This a great sign that microsoft have got their act together!

Apart from that, the only other thing that Microsoft have disclosed is when beta 1 is coming out.

Microsoft says they will release the beta 1 in the first half of 2008.

also see this:

*firefox update*

I have now decided to move permanently move to firefox 3 beta 2, as it is so easy to use. My spelling is much better now, thanks to the inline spell checker and firefox 3 has added a new layer of protection, to guard me from spyware and viruses.

It is noticeably faster than firefox 2 aswell and it uses much less resources.

I also love the feature where you type in the url bar and pops up your bookmarked website. I don't really care about any add ons so far, because at the moment firefox 3 has got it all!
:FF:

The only problem I have encountered so far, is that when I first got firefox 3, I couldn't use some of the features (because I had customised firefox 2 so much!). So I decided to delete my profile and make a new one. And wow...I wish I had done it earlier!

firefox 3 is the best browser ive tried in a long time...in fact I think it has reached 1st position on the podium in my brain

It is a joy to use...im just wondering what is the final release of firefox 3 is going to be like...

Merry Christmas (again) :santa:
