user abort

in the first 300 or so scanned items I find about 6 instances of spyware. It then shuts itself down, user abort.

I reinstalled spybot and now it's not picking anything up, though there are several notable instances of spyware operating on my computer.

I'm not sure what to make of the "very small fix" I have seen in simaler threads, it's just a list of registry entries

We recommend a fresh install of Spybot - Search & Destroy.

Please uninstall Spybot - Search & Destroy according to the following link:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/howto/uninstall.html
Then make a fresh install of Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.5.
You will find links to several download locations on our website:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html

You will also have to update your new version using the integrated updater.
This should solve the problem.
